The past month has been a tough one, frustrating and demotivating. I seemed to have lost my creative spark. I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing and was upset at not pursuing my dream with the focus and passion it deserved.
I finally decided to stop doing the one thing I wasn’t enjoying, something that was taking time away from what I wanted to do, liked to do. Having ended a long period of indecision, relief flooded me. It was naturally followed by fear and then of course, doubt raised its tiresome head. What if my dream didn’t come true despite all my efforts? Was I setting myself up for disappointment?
A dream, the best gift you can give yourself
It was a strange mix of freedom and fear. Freedom from doing what I didn’t like and fear of what future had in store for me. It was then that I chanced upon a documentary of Andy Warhol, the artist famous for the visual art movement. Watching him work with a crazed passion till he died seemed to awaken the creative spirit inside me.
The gift of words: for the brave and the afraid
Soon after, I chanced upon several posters and paintings on Pinterest that heartened me. They spoke to me, they said,
“Sometimes you have to create your own sunshine.”
“It’s okay to take the offbeat road. Be true to yourself. Dream you must.”
I have given myself the gift of dreams. Have you? Do it, it’s the best gift you can give yourself and those who love you. And, if you know someone who is battling fear and doubt, give them the gift of these words; give them the strength to pursue their dreams.
